The Audi R8 Spyder is the convertible version of Audi’s mid-engine, V8-powered R8 supercar. Fuel consumption – rarely a point of interest for Super Shopper – suffers due to the potent V8 and four-wheel drive. The stick model shifted versa 11/20 city / highway mpg, while the double-clutch-equipped variant is good for 14/23 mpg. Together with aluminum double wishbones at the front and rear, the suspension has a “Audi magnetic ride ‘adaptive damper system that can be configured, sporty driving dynamics or to provide a softer ride. The latter is convenient enough that the Audi R8 conceivably be used as a daily driver. Direct, hydraulic rack-and-pinion steering provides a feedback-filled, full of character counterpoint to the deaf electric assistance systems, which in many modern performance machines.
