The 2015 Acura RLX is a mid-size luxury sedan available in two versions: Base and Sport Hybrid. There are also a number of packages that Acura technically referred to as trim levels. There are no stand-alone options. The base starting with 18-inch wheels, LED headlights, sunroof, key-less ignition and entry of a power tilt-telescopic steering wheel, heated eight-way power front seats, driver memory settings, leatherette upholstery and tri-zone climate control. Also standard are a rearview camera, Bluetooth, SMS text-to-speech function for MAP-enabled mobile phones and a 10-speaker ELS sound system with CD player, digital music storage, USB / iPod interface, HD radio and satellite radio.
The 2015 Acura RLX Navigation Package adds navigation capability for the 8-inch screen, which is already at the top of the dash, and also on the AcuraLink suite of smartphone apps. In addition, the air conditioning of the navigation system uses GPS to adjust cabin temperature according to the position of the sun. The 2015 Acura RLX Sport Hybrid contains all of the above devices, but also adds its unique gas-electric powertrain, special noise-reducing 19-inch wheels, a head-up display, an electronic gear selector lever and a special accelerator that promotes economic driving.
The technology package provides either 2015 Acura RLX model with rain-sensing wipers, power retractable mirror, blind spot monitoring system, sound absorbing acoustic glass, leather, wood interior accents and a 14-speaker ELS sound system. Even the keyless system now works on all four doors instead of just the front doors and trunk. The basic version also gets 19-inch wheels. The 2015 Acura RLX Advance Package adds adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation system with automatic brakes, a lane departure warning, front and rear parking sensors, ventilated front seats and heated rear seats. The Krell audio package is exclusive to the base 2015 Acura RLX and adds a deluxe 14-speaker sound system Krell and full sun protection for the rear seat.
2015 Acura RLX Interior
Its will be immediately found by the sheer amount of space in the 2015 Acura RLX. It feels noticeably more spacious than the old Acura RL or Acura TL. Legroom is abundant in the front and back, but 6-footers is the headroom in the back seat and clearance under the front chairs is closely low, so forget slide your feet under them. The front seats are wide and comfortable, but we found them lacking support on longer journeys. Trunk versatility is back seats that do not bend is limited, but its 15.3 cubic meters certainly is average for the segment. It does go up to 12 cubic feet with the sports hybrid, but that’s actually pretty good for a hybrid sedan.
With the navigation system is easy and intuitive as Acura, you can look up destinations from the central control dial, a new 7-inch touch screen interface or an advanced voice recognition system. Unfortunately, neither screen has the crisp graphics we come to expect in this class, and some of the basic functions require multiple relapses virtual touchscreen buttons that can be bothersome. A relatively small radio presets is another disappointment.
The 2015 Acura RLX Hybrid sports car is slightly different. A standard head-up display shows hybrid system of power distribution along with the usual speed display, while the traditional gear lever has been replaced by a strange electronic voting. It has buttons for Park, Neutral and Drive, but the other way is with a pull switch engaged. 2015 Acura RLX is ergonomically awkward and other reasons to be different.
2015 Acura RLX Engine
The base 2015 Acura RLX comes standard with a 310-hp 3.5-liter V6 engine. Front-wheel drive and a six-speed automatic transmission with both a sport mode and steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters are standard. When considering a 2015 RLX Advance package went from zero to 60 mph in 6.3 seconds, which is average for a mid-size luxury sedan. The EPA estimates the RLX at 24 mpg combined (20 city / 31 highway) that are above average for a six-cylinder luxury saloon.
The 2015 Acura RLX Sport Hybrid comes with the same V6, but things differently than with the addition of three electric motors. It is within seven-speed automated manual transmission sports hybrid to the gasoline V6 integrated support in the care of the front wheels, while the other Makes a rear respectively. The result is a unique all-wheel-drive system and a total output of 377 hp. EPA-estimated fuel economy is an excellent 30 mpg combined (28/32).
2015 Acura RLX Safety
The 2015 Acura RLX comes with antilock disc brakes, front-seat side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags and a driver’s knee airbag. A rearview camera is standard, but you have to move all the way up to the pre-package to get front and rear parking sensors. The package is also your ticket for collision mitigation and Lane Keeping Assist. A blind spot monitoring system, starting with the technology package included with trim. In the test the 2015 Acura RLX was a 60-0 mph stopping distance of 120 m-an average number for this class.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has conducted its series of tests on the 2015 Acura RLX is good for a top score in all tests for moderate overlap and small overlap frontal offset crash safety, side impact safety, roof strength, and seat-belt and headrest design spin reduction.
